I keep seeing all these books and lists popping up all over the internet about the “100 things you need to see” or “100 places you need to visit.” I love reading these lists, and then dreaming about actually going to these places and experiencing these for myself. But, when I travel, I only want to dedicate part of my day to doing those typical tourist activities.
My favorite thing about traveling is experiencing the culture, taking in the sites, finding things on my own, basically getting lost and seeing the city for myself.
I talked with my friend Kristina last night and we were chatting about Spain. And, I wouldn’t have changed my trip for the world. I loved seeing the Alhambra, and going to museums. But my favorite part of that trip was hiking up a mountain and finding a little restaurant that overlooked the Alhambra. My friend and I sat there for hours drinking wine and eating plates of tapas as we looked out over the mountain and the Alhambra. I loved seeing it from such a different perspective.
On my next trip, I’m going to do some of the tourist activities but I’m so excited to wander these cities by myself for the first time. I’m so excited to stand in front of these beautiful European buildings and experience the culture.
What’s your favorite thing about traveling?
