How to plan for a trip…or not

When I first started traveling, I went on organized tours. The first time I went to Mexico, it was with EF tours. We stayed at a beach resort and experienced the wonders of basically having everything catered for us. The second time I went to Taiwan to volunteer and I eventually saw the entire country through an organized tour. Since those trips, I’ve started to notice that I’ve begun flying by the seat of my pants.

The next trip to was my first time to Europe and I had it half planned, the school portion was planned out but the week after was not and that was…. an experience to say the least. After that, my trips have begun to get less and less organized. And I actually got into a trend where I would decide I would go visit a friend and then let them plan what we would do.  They’re the locals and know all the cool things to see. And every time that’s happened, it’s been a great experience.

Well, I leave in just a few short weeks for Europe again. And… I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ll meet up with friends eventually for about 75% of the trip, but other than that I’m kind of flying by the seat of my pants. It dawned on me this week that I actually hadn’t booked anywhere to stay for my trip which can be unnerving.

I don’t know if this lack of panic or organization is coming with age to the extent that I’m okay with whatever happens. Or if it’s just an increase in my laziness. Either way, I booked my accommodations for….part of my trip.  I still have a few nights I need to get accounted for.

On another note, I am going to Europe soon! And some part of me is concerned as to how this will turn out given my lack of preparation… we’ll see how this goes!
