Weezer: Remembering middle school

I remember in 6th grade my sister had just left for college and we used to talk on the phone. I was still listening to The Coors on my cassette tape.  Do people still listen to them? Outside of The Coors, I listened to classical music and whatever happened to be on the radio in the car which ended up usually being talk radio. I distinctly remember having a call with my sister before school one day, and she told me to listen to a song called “Buddy Holly” by a band called Weezer.  She thought that I would like them. And she was right. 100% right.  I fell in love with this band and they quickly became my favorite band. They were my first concert where Jimmy Eat World and Tenacious D opened for them.

I remember sitting with a group of friends in the chairs along the side of the stage because I wasn’t allowed to go to the general admission section. My friends and I screamed the lyrics at the top of our lungs. That concert was a turning point in my life. It started an obsession with music. After that concert, I went to 32 concerts in a 9 month period.

This past weekend, my friend invited me to attend her company’s post-holiday party where Weezer was playing.  I jumped at the opportunity to see this band again and it was totally worth it.  I must admit that I stopped loving them as much after the Green Album but I still love them all the same. Their newer stuff is still unknown to me but it’s okay. I still screamed all the lyrics to “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So” and “Undone (The Sweater Song).”
