The last time I went to Disneyland I was 7 years old and I’m pretty sure I fell asleep on every ride. I have a tendency to get motion sickness and my immediate reaction is to fall asleep. So all those rides just feel like things I’ve dreamed about for years.
Fortunately, I got the opportunity to go to Disneyland this past week. Who goes to Disneyland on a week day? I do. Or rather, I did and it was totally worth it.
I finally got to experience all those rides that I’ve only heard about from friends. And see the Disneyland Castle. And meet Mickey and Minnie, while I was wearing my Minnie ears. And I got to meet Princesses. Ariel, Snow White and Cinderella to be exact. It was like I was given the chance to be 7 years old all over again and I definitely took full advantage. I frolicked through the streets of California Adventure and Disneyland humming along to the Disney music playing in the background. I was distracted by all the different themed areas and the shiny things. I took pictures with as many Disney characters as possible with the biggest grin I could muster up and I tried out as many rides as I could (that didn’t trigger the motion sickness).
My favorite part was watching the World of Color and basically re-watching all my favorite Disney movies with Mickey Mouse’s face in the background. I did get a little teary eyed when they did a Genie from Aladdin montage but it reminded me just how much I loved Aladdin.
I don’t foresee myself making another journey to Disneyland in the near future, so I’m glad that I had the chance to be a child again. Now I really do understand why everyone says it’s the ‘happiest place on earth.’
